RS-99 Is A Medium-Density Fiber Reinforced Ceramic Composite Material

ZIRCAR Refractory Composites, Inc., (ZRCI), Florida, NY, USA is proud to announce the introduction of Refractory Sheet Type RS-99. Type RS-99 is a medium-density fiber reinforced ceramic composite material with greater than 99% Alpha-Alumina purity. It has a fired density of 2.1 gm/cc (130 lb/ft3) which allows it to be machined to tight tolerances with standard tooling, and is useful for applications in excess of 1650°C (3002°F).

Type RS-99’s high Alumina content is ideal for high vacuum, reducing atmospheres and other applications where silica cannot be tolerated, such as in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and setters for P/M and MIM sintering applications. Refractory Sheet Type RS-99 is available in three versions:

• Type RS-99M is a highly plastic moldable sheet ideally suited for forming custom geometry.

• Type RS-99W boards can be moistened with water and molded into any desired shape. After low temperature bake-out of 300°C (570°F) material is unaffected by moisture.

• Type RS-99R boards are prefired and are unaffected by moisture. They remain rigid even if saturated with water.

ZIRCAR Refractory Sheet Type RS-201 and RS-202 are fiber reinforced ceramic laminate with useful properties to 2300°F (1260°C). These high temperature products offer high strength, moderate thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation. They retain their strength and utility to levels far exceeding maximum use temperatures of reinforced plastics and asbestos cement replacements. They are 100% inorganic, non-flammable and contains no asbestos. Their high alumina content makes them resistant to many environments including molten aluminum. RS-201 and RS-202 undergoes little or no outgassing on heating, are not brittle, and may be cut and machined with standard tooling. RS-201 has a highly burnished outside surface. This is ideal when the OD is crucial for liner placement. RS-202 has an as formed surface. They are available in standard and custom size cylinders and are useful as induction coil liners, induction furnace components, and molten metal transport tubes.

Compared to ZIRCAR Refractory Sheet Type RS-101 Cylinders , RS-201 has the following attributes:

• Finer reinforcement structure which allows

• for machining of intricate detail

• Less tendency to delaminate

• Higher strength
